Signs You”re Over-Dosing on Self Improvement (#selfhelp)

I am definitely a self care slut! Self care has gone Pop in 2018. I am in love with emotional empowerment. Self care sells, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is not a bad thing. The benefits can be infinite. But anything that is done in excess can be damaging. So how do you know you are going over into the deep end.

THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS!

THIS IS FOR THE BOOK LOVERS

Are you drowning in self help books. Are self help the only genre of books  you are reading. In my experience, I learned reading nothing but nonfictional books caused me to think too much. Where did I go wrong? What could I have done different? This new age our minds seems to be conditioned to be on impulse mode. Reading too many self help books has me attempting to change my entire life in 24 hours. We all know that is not realistic. We understand good habits create good outcomes, and it just takes time to form these habits. But here comes the edge snatching motivational quote that makes me forget completely about the time it takes. Then I’m left feeling pressed for time or inadequate. This also includes podcasts, blogs, and those super bossed up IG pages.

So how can you create some balance? I have found reading some good fiction helps bring everything into zen. Nonfiction is the place I get motivation from versus fiction is where I find the inspiration. You definitely need both: motivation is the push and inspiration is the pull. It’s perfectly normal to mix some foolishness into the mix. Sprinkle in a little ratchet here and there to give you a bit of escape.

SPENDING TOO MUCH MONEY ON SELF CARE WILL PUT YOU IN DEBT

Don’t be seduced so easily by the people on social media. Social media tends to reward whatever is cool or cute. Our impulses can be seduced by the different cute posts you see daily. But I think you should know, self care can be affordable. Take advantage of the resources you have at hand. Maybe you can’t afford that expensive all day spa retreat, but you can enjoy a nice day at the park without your phone in hand. You don’t have to purchase every new book that comes out, you can learn to utilize your local library and rent it. It might not be in your budget to indulge in the expensive fitness clubs, no worries you can utilize every type of workout you can imagine for free on YouTube. Don’t go broke!

DON’T BE SO SERIOUS

Humans are not meant to be squeaky clean at all times. Heaven is the place of perfection, while were here on earth I think it is important to not be on guard every second of everyday. Live a little, laugh a little, love a little! Welcome the imperfections, our earth is not perfect so why would you expect yourselves to be.

DO YOU BINGE ON KNOWLEDGE MORE THAN YOU ARE APPLYING IT

I’m GUILTY! Sometimes personal development can become aspirational entertainment. Instead of taking the information you get from a self help book, blog, video, podcast, etc and applying to your life: instead you receive the moment of pleasure you get then move on to the next thing.  So you are never really digesting any of the information. Rob Hill Sr. said, “Knowledge without application is a waste. Those who just know will always come second to those who do. Put what you know in motion…apply what you have learned”

I will end with this
